Future Tech Definition: A method for securely transmitting cryptographic keys between two parties involved in encrypted communication, based on the principles of quantum mechanics. QKD allows two parties to generate a shared random secret key known only to them, which can be used to encrypt and decrypt messages. It is theoretically secure against any interception, as the act of measuring a quantum system changes its state.
